Best Management Practices for Cover Crops in Almonds

This guide covers the main aspects of cover cropping in almond orchards. It was published by The Almond Board of California and the main research collaborators on the project include Vivian Wauters, Amélie Gaudin, Neal Williams, and Katherine Jarvis-Shean. Additional collaborators on the project include Cooperative Extension, growers, the NRCS, the Lockeford Plant Materials Center, Project Apis m., the Community Alliance with Family Farmers, The Xerces Society, among others. The BMPs are based on a synthesis of data from many research projects, as well as the observational knowledge of growers and advisers who have been using cover crops for decades.

The contents of the guide include a summary of the five major management steps for using cover crops, a timeline of cover crop management, and multiple options for managing cover crops in your context.

The virtual copy of the guide is available via the link below. You can also access the guide via the Almond Board of California website, which also has other relevant information for almond growers: almonds.com/covercrops
